As we transition in to Autumn it is the perfect time to pack away your summer clothes and start pull out your treasured cosy cashmere jumpers, autumnal dresses and coats. It's also a great time to start thinking about your capsule wardrobe for Autumn/Winter and which new trends you would like to incorporate into your wardrobe. I am never a slave to the trends but I always like to dip my toe into a few trends seasonally for a wardrobe refresh. The catwalks were awash with over the top prints, dark floral's, clashing checks, oversized puffy sleeves, head to toe leather, feathers and tons of sassy ruffles. The runways also saw the continuing revival of fashion styles from the 70's, 80's and 90's. This is exciting for me as I have a cool collection of 80's dresses that I always love wearing. See below my round up of the catwalk trends that I am loving on the high street right now.

PUFFY SLEEVES

This trend is going no where - in fact, the the bigger sleeve, the better. I'm loving the romance of a beautiful sheer puff sleeve.

LEATHER

This season leather has come back big! It was seen worn top to toe on the runways in black, tan, rust, berry colours. Why not try wearing leather in different tonal autumnal shades or if you like to keep it classic simply add a leather trench or blazer to your capsule wardrobe. These type of items will go with pretty much everything. I have my eye on a pair of leather cropped trousers that I will be wearing with my soft knit jumpers and blouses. Here's my selection of key leather pieces that I am loving.

FLORAL DRESSES

A floral midi dress is always a firm favourite of mine as it is something you can throw on and feel instantly dressed without having to add much more to complete your outfit apart from a nice pair of shoes and a handbag. I don't think this trend ever goes out of fashion, it is also a popular choice with many of my clients. On the catwalks we saw muted base colours with bright over the top floral prints. The style of dresses had high necks, long sleeves and low ankle skimming hems. I still prefer a midi dress as longer hem dresses can drown my short frame. Here's some of the floral dresses I am coveting right now.

DOUBLE DENIM

I'm a big lover of denim as it is so versatile to wear in lots of different ways. I love the fact that it is universal fabric that anyone can wear whatever your age. This season it is on trend to double up this look. Try different shades..with a lighter shirt on top and darker shade jeans. Boiler suits are also still going strong which offer a cooler edgier vibe. A denim dress can also be a great piece as part of your wardrobe as it is transitional into all seasons. Wear with trainers for a casual vibe or for the winter months wear it with tan knee high boots. See below my denim finds from the high street.

SUITS

The tailored suit is another trend that I think will be transitional over many season's. It looks instantly cool and chic worn casually with a crisp white shirt or dressed up with a silk camisole and barely their sandals. Play it safe with classic colours like black and creams or go for bold colours for a standout statement style. See my favourite finds below.

TARTAN CHECKS

This years checks have been revamped up with bright colour combinations and plaid print clashes. I always love a checked blazer or coat in Autumn and winter. Here's some of what the high street has to offer.

THE RETURN OF THE CARDIGAN

The famous roll neck has been over taken by the return of the cardigan. Cardigan's on the catwalks came in all kinds of prints, colours and lengths. Style it up layered over a thin polo neck or wear it as jacket accessorised with a wide belt.

CAPES

The Cape was the most talked about outerwear silhouette of the season. It was seen on models on the ramp at Celine, J W Anderson and Chanel. This style looks so elegant over occasion wear dresses or add that extra chicness over a smart day time look.

As I often say to many of my clients I would always approach trends with caution, only buy into seasonal items that truly fit in with your style values. However, I also believe fashion should always be fun and sometimes it is nice to mix up your wardrobe and try out new styles. What is your favourite trend? What will you be buying this season?

I would love to here from you! Thanks for reading my post.
