I have been itching to book a city break with my best friends for a while now. I am thinking Paris or Rome?! A short break away with friends always warms my soul, having great conversations and simply switching off from my busy lifestyle as a mum and personal stylist.
Embarking on a city break is always exciting adventure filled with exploration, culture, and of course, stylish moments. My friends know that their personal stylist friend is always organised with outfits nailed for every part of the day on a city break.
Whether you're wandering through historic streets, sipping coffee in pretty cafes, or capturing the skyline from a rooftop bar, your wardrobe plays a crucial role in making the most of your getaway. So, if you are struggling on what to wear then here's a professional stylists guide on what to wear for a city break, ensuring you're both comfortable and effortlessly chic throughout your journey.
Comfortable Footwear: A city break usually involves a lot of walking, so comfortable footwear is non-negotiable. Opt for stylish sneakers, chic ankle boots, or comfortable flats to keep your feet happy while exploring the cityscape.
Versatile Bottoms: Pack versatile bottoms that can easily transition from day to night. A pair of well-fitted jeans, stylish trousers, or a versatile skirt can be paired with different tops, allowing you to create various looks without overpacking.
Stylish Tops: Bring a mix of stylish tops that can be dressed up or down. T-shirts with interesting prints, blouses, and lightweight sweaters are perfect for city breaks. Layering is key, especially if you're visiting a city with unpredictable weather.
Statement Outerwear: Depending on the season, a statement outerwear piece can elevate your entire look. A classic trench coat, a stylish leather jacket, or a cosy oversized sweater can add flair to your outfit while providing warmth when needed.
Day-to-Night Dresses: Pack a versatile dress that can effortlessly transition from day to night. A simple sundress paired with sneakers is ideal for daytime exploration, and by adding some accessories and switching to ankle boots, you'll be ready for a night out in the city.
Accessories: Accessories are the key to transforming a basic outfit into a stylish ensemble. Bring a statement handbag, a pair of sunglasses, and some versatile jewellery to add the finishing touches to your look.
Weather-Appropriate Essentials: Check the weather forecast for your destination and pack accordingly. A stylish hat, a lightweight scarf, or a compact umbrella can be essential depending on the climate.
Adaptable Activewear: If your city break includes outdoor activities or a visit to the local gym, pack some adaptable activewear. A stylish athleisure outfit can seamlessly take you from a morning jog to a casual brunch.

Here's an example of a capsule wardrobe that I would wear on a city break with my friends. As we are in the Autumn season and the weather can be cold I have opted for trousers and separates over a dress and skirts. Everyone's city break outfit ideas will look different as we all have personal style preferences.
